Profile Construction Consultants are experts in construction planning and programming. They provide support for client developers, professional service companies, contractors and trade contractors, as well as delivering legal dispute and expert witness services.
The company proudly celebrated its 25th anniversary recently, with an Elecosoft Powerproject plan featured as the main decoration on the cake, which we are assured was not only beautifully planned, but absolutely delicious!
We caught up with Managing Director, Tim Murdoch, to learn more about the role that Powerproject software plays in his business.
A favourite for construction planning and delivery
Powerproject has been part of Profile Construction Consultants planning and delivery model since the outset and continues to drives its future with BIM and 4D modelling services.
Although the team uses all the mainstream project planning platforms, Powerproject has been a favourite for Tim since before he joined Profile. “We have delivered more than 3,100 commissions at Profile, and at least three quarters of those have been delivered with the help of Powerproject” Tim explained. These have included programming for numerous major UK contractors and clients, ranging from large sites such as St Pancras Hotel and the Victoria Palace Theatre to assisting on the design management of the Barts London hospital development and the redevelopment of Canterbury Cricket Ground amongst many others.
Supporting construction client communication
When asked about the stand-out benefit of Powerproject for construction planning, Tim said: “The biggest selling point of Powerproject is the ease of visual communication. It’s still the best for showing exactly what you’re trying to show, because the way you can use colours, filters and different views make it really simple to show clients complex problems in a relatively easy way, especially compared to P6 and MS Project.”
The company has found that most of its construction clients are already users, making it easy to share plans and information with them using Powerproject. That’s why it has trained all of its 12 staff on Powerproject. Profile has kept constantly up to date with the product as it has evolved, to make sure it can always use the software for maximum benefit. Tim recalled that “We update our training every time we have a couple of new users on board, with a trainer from Elecosoft coming to us.”

Looking to the future of 4D construction planning
This small construction consulting company is ahead of many larger players, having embraced 4D planning to a significant degree. “We often create a 4D model using Powerproject’s BIM module even if it’s not part of the contract, so we can constantly improve things. It especially helps younger team members, as well as clients, to visualise the spatial arrangements and phasing. We see BIM and 4D planning as the way forward, and it is a growing process.”
Elecosoft is pleased to frequently hear of customers gaining great business benefits from its suite of software solutions.
