The pursuit of excellence requires that projects are complete on time, every time. However, what happens when you are the last supplier on the job? You are left with a huge responsibility.
Brown & Carroll is a specialist in the highest specification fit-out joinery. It is often the last in a long line of contractors involved in bringing construction projects to a successful conclusion. By the time they get started on a project, deadlines have often slipped. Some promises to hand over on time to the finishing trades are already broken. Despite the odds, Brown & Carroll complete on time, every time.
More progress insight helps them complete on time
Careful project management is at the heart of the company’s work. Planner Matthew Kingston was already familiar with Powerproject and its Enterprise version. He recognised that Site Progress Mobile, its companion app, could play a key role. The goal was to tighten up a key aspect of assuring things are complete on-time: mobile progress tracking.
Before we used Site Progress Mobile, we would print out the programme from Powerproject and send it over to the managers on site. They would walk around and hand-write all the completion percentages on the printout. They would add comments, and refer to pictures they had taken. It would all be sent back to me or a colleague. We had to go through it line by line to input every comment and progress point. We were doing one job, but doing it twice. With the app, we can mark up the programme directly from site – and that’s it.

Mobile progress tracking from site manager mobiles
As a project draws to a close, it is hardly surprising that clients are intensely interested in whether their finishing supplier can complete on-time. They demand progress detail in depth. They need clear reasons if anything isn’t finishing to plan. Brown & Carroll needs these details just as much. Stage payments can depend on delivery and installation of key joinery.
By enabling mobile progress tracking from site managers’ own mobiles, “Site Progress Mobile acts as a progress report, a monthly valuation report, and backup for any delays scenarios that may occur. It significantly reduces the time that progress updates take,” summarises Matthew.
